3-D Pansies

November 27th, 2007

I wanted to make something that looked old fashioned, and I love giant yarn flowers. So, this crochet pattern was perfect. My husband says it looks like cake icing (it really does), but it also looks like a garden, I think. It reminds me of my grandmother’s house. It turned out to be really big, 6 ft. by 5 ft.! And the Red Heart yarn is super soft after being washed.

The details: I used TLC Winter White and various other Red Heart colors for the flowers. The green is TLC Dark Thyme. All the yarn is worsted weight, and I used a 5 mm hook. The squares are attached by single crocheting to chain three spaces, but alternating squares, which gives the connections a cool criss-cross look.

Here’s a closeup of one of the pansies:

The whole blanket spread out (totally like cake icing):

The coolest part is that it worked up quickly. I didn’t spend much time on it over the past few weeks, and suddenly it was finished.

Next up, I’ve designed an Aran Afghan pattern using various knit stitches. I’ll post pics and the pattern when I have more work done.
