Sunflowers

Here’s my latest project, a colored-pencil drawing of sunflowers. It’s based on a photo in a book called “Sunflowers.” (Clever title.)

I’m totally inspired to draw now, so perhaps there will be more of these posts. Or maybe I’ll take up pottery or scrapbooking. Just kidding.

Pencils

Here are the two pencil drawings I’ve completed. The first is Michelle Pfeiffer. The second is a Venice scene.

That’s it for the old stuff. I have one new drawing to post…

Paint and Pastel

This painting of Venice was my first completed project in oils.

Bourbon Street, in pastels

Here’s the only acrylic painting I finished that I liked enough to hang.

Colored Pencil Drawings

Lately I haven’t wanted to crochet, so I’m turning this into a general art project blog. First up are a couple of posts of things I finished long ago. I’d like to keep the pictures organized here.

Completed Aran Shawl

I know I said I would take more pics while this was in progress, but I finished so quickly, there wasn’t time. Here’s the finished shawl. I *love* it. It’s big and warm but also light and easy to move around in. Putting the squares together so the diagonal edge formed triangles worked really well; it folds perfectly around my neck. Plus, the flat sleeve edges don’t hang down too long in the front.

Next up is, er, well, maybe nothing. I’ve made everything I need! I might not crochet anything for a while. If I come up with a project, I’ll post.

Meanwhile, I’ve joined ravelry. My alias there is teagirl. See you there!

Design-a-Shawl

I need a new shawl but couldn’t decide on a pattern. I looked *everywhere* and didn’t fall in love with anything. So, I went to the yarn store and picked out a color first: Red Heart Super Saver Aran. It’s the perfect shade of off-white, I think.

I let the color inspire me and decided to make a shawl from squares. These are coming from several different books. I’m trying to use only squares that are unusual, so I’m going to post pictures of each. Here are the first few. Since I don’t know their names, they get numbers.

1 and 2

3 and 4

5 and 6

7 and 8

So far, I like 1, 5 and 6 best. I have no idea if this will look good when it’s complete. I guess we’ll see.

Completed Scrap Blanket

It’s finished! This blanket served the dual purpose of amusing me with its clashing colors and using up all my remainder yarn. (Well, all my remainder Red Heart yarn–I have plenty of Simply Soft left. *sigh*) It turned out to be 67”x40”–just long enough to use on the couch.

Pictures!
The traditional chair drape:

The full blanket (note when I took the picture, I hadn’t completed one of the black center stars):

And a closeup!

Here’s the original post. Next up, I’m making a shawl because the other one is 1. too warm for summer and 2. a bit sloppy because it’s too big. Details shortly!

Scraps Together

Here are a couple of pics from the scrap blanket in progress.

A fifth of the blanket.

After I connect all the octagons, there’s a neutral-colored star that fills the gaps. Original post here.

Endless Remainders

I have eighty seven gazillion remainder skeins, so I’m making a scrap blanket. It consists of little octagons that will be connected by even smaller, star-shaped, er, yarn things. I’m using a 5mm hook, but the yarn types cannot be specified due to the vastness of the variety. Here are a few octagons I’ve already made:

And a picture of a single:

These are super fast to make, but that isn’t helpful considering I have to make 221 of them! It will likely take a while.

Meanwhile, I’m looking for another shawl pattern, something delicate but warm. Any suggestions? The one I have is warm, but it’s also bulky and gigantic. I want something thinner, but not too lacy.

Oh, yeah, and I’m joining Ravelry.com. Jodi gave me a tour and it looks really cool. I can’t wait to browse all the patterns and pics. If you’re there, I shall see you there.

Heirloom Afghan

This one took way less time than I thought. It came from a pattern in a book called “63 Easy-To-Crochet Pattern Stitches.” Each square is a different stitch, which made the blanket fun and not at all tedious. Details are on the original post.

This is the biggest blanket I’ve ever made: nine feet by seven. Here are a few pictures.

The full blanket:

Here it is draped over a chair:

A couple of closeups:

And the edging:

After making all these blankets, I’m left with a ton of scrap yarn. I’m making a scrap blanket next.
